Michael was fortunate to have good teachers who encouraged his artistic talents. He attended Sheridan College of Art in Ontario. The positive feedback and support from his art teachers gave him an excellent foundation and he has continued to develop and learn on his own.
The B.C. Wildlife Federation has named him 2012 Artist of the Year for his painting "Great Grey Owl". He also won Gold Award for his painting "Back to the Beginning" at the Thompson-Nicola-Shuswap Chapter of the Federation of Canadian Artists in 2012.
Michael has worked in a number of different mediums but over time has found that oil and acrylic suit his style best. He has entered a number of national and regional juried shows where he has won People's Choice and Best of Show among other awards. A giclée print of the "Red Tail Hawk" is hanging in the House of Commons in Ottawa. In 2013 the painting "Golden Umbrella" hung in the Legislative Building, Queen's Park, Toronto. His work has been published and chosen for the front page of Art Avenue, a magazine published by the Federation of Canadian Artists, and Beef in B.C., published by the B.C. Cattleman's Association. He was also published in the Southwest Art Magazine January 2014 edition as a finalist in an Art Competition with over 6000 entries worldwide.
He has an appreciation of the natural world and spends much of his time exploring the Okanagan area. Over the past few years, Michael's interests have led him to landscape paintings depiction the beauty of the Okanagan. His ambition is to continue to paint and grow as an artist.
